How Popular is Starburst in New Zealand?
As previously mentioned, this video slot is extremely popular all over the world, and New Zealand is no different! Ask any veteran online gambler to mention 3 NetEnt slots, and this is bound to be one of the video slots that they mention. Lots of popular New Zealand online casinos also offer this in their Welcome Bonus, so it is a good chance that this will be the first video slot that you play at a new online casino.
My Experience with Starburst Slot
I usually prefer characters, animals and high-life possessions in a video slot, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that even without these visuals, I still enjoyed it. The symbols are mostly comprised of different colour gems and retro “7” and “Bar” symbols. These retro symbols have, however, been modernised and blend seamlessly with the glittering, colourful gems. One of the things I enjoyed most about this slot was that I got the majority of my wins from the base game and not from free spins/bonus features. This is extremly rare to find in video slots and was very refreshing. It boosted my overall enjoyment from what would have been maybe a 5 out of 10 to a whopping 8 out of 10!
Bonuses, Gameplay, Variance
Despite most of my wins being from the base game, I did still receive moderate wins from the bonus games. There are no free spins, but it does have an expanding Starburst wild symbol which almost makes up for it. This expanding Starburst wild will cover all of the reels and will stay there for up to 3 re-spins (which are basically a form of free spin). This feature will continually add re-spins every time you get a new wild symbol. This feature was pretty amazing and the graphics accompanying it will leave you star struck, so while it wasn’t my biggest money earner, it still added a lot to my overall enjoyment of the gameplay.
Volatility: Medium
Conclusion
Starburst is just one of those slots that you have to try out at least once just because of how extremely popular it is. Although it would never be a slot I would have chosen for myself, I actually really enjoyed it and managed to make a nice little profit after +-45 minutes of gameplay, and the fact that I played it for so long (despite not having the things I usually look for in slots) proves that there is a reason this slot is so popular - it’s actually fun!
